VIDEO: DR Gerba – School Hygiene

Respected microbiologist asked to ‘stay behind after school’.

In the interest of furthering our knowledge of how germs spread in the education environment, and more importantly, what we can do about it, CrestClean invited Dr Charles P. Gerba to New Zealand.

‘Dr Germ’ is a Professor of Microbiology and specialises in the study of bacteria in the workplace. His 2009 published study of Classroom Hygiene found that improved hygiene has a dramatic affect on reducing student absenteeism through reduced infection.

We’re better now…

Education is everything, and we’ve applied many of Dr Gerba’s suggestions to enhance our cleaning services to schools. Over 150 education facilities now have a local CrestClean team providing services. CrestClean provides resources to schools, including posters aimed at children – to help increase their awareness of hygiene and pride in their school environment.

The average office desk has 400 times more bacteria than a toilet seat. The desk may look clean, but is it really?

Workplace illness is a significant health issue in New Zealand. The Ministry of Health estimates that each year it has a large impact on our community with 10-20 per cent of people affected by viruses such as influenza, and your office is the most common place for adults to contract a cold, the flu or other illnesses. Think about the germs that you are potentially taking home to your family.
